How to search on www.samer.se
The easiest way to search is to type in an individual word, and the system then searches for all the articles containing that word. If you type in more than one word, you will find the articles containing one of the words. If you type in several words inside quotation marks, the system will search for articles containing the entire phrase. Example: If you enter ``Lars fishes'', you will get hits for articles containing that exact phrase, but not ``Fishes Lars'', for example.
In order to include or exclude parts of articles in the search results, AND, OR and NOT can be used.
AND is used when you want both word 1 and word 2 to be found in the articles that are returned.
OR is used when it is sufficient for either word 1 or word 2 to be found in the articles that are returned. This is the rule that applies when you specify several words in the search string without Boolean operators.
NOT is used when you want to retrieve the articles containing word 1 but not word 2.
Truncating a word entails only specifying part of the word in the search phrase, followed by an asterisk. The search result will then comprise those articles containing any words that begin with the initial string. Only truncation at the end of the word is possible as a search function at www.samer.se.
hand* returns articles containing ``hand'', for example, but also ``handicrafts''. Sami AND hand* - Returns articles containing the word ``Sami'' and also containing ``hand'' or ``handicrafts'', for example. |
